Flexable
Designing a startup’s user flow from scratch
Overview
Flexable is a Pittsburgh based startup that matches parents who need last minute childcare with daycares that have temporary openings. For more information, please visit their facebook page.
I worked with Flexable to design wireframes and a user flow for its website, which is currently undergoing minor edits before being put into development.
Problem
It is not unusual for parents to need a couple of hours of last minute childcare during the workweek. Conversely, daycares often have temporary openings from children being away on trips or getting sick.
In theory, parents and childcares should be able to coordinate with daycares so that both of their needs are met. However, there is currently no communication platform to enable this to occur.
Objectives
Create an platform that can be utilized by both parents and daycares to find one another and coordinate schedules.
Parents
Make them feel comfortable enough with the daycares to entrust them with the care of their children.
Daycares
Create an organized system to streamline the process of scheduling appointments and keeping track of paperwork.
Similar Platforms
NoWait: Caters to both the users and the service.
Zillow: Users can input their locations and browse for the desired service.

Parent Experience

Establishing Credibility
Throughout the parent's process, the primary goal was to establish credibility on behalf of the daycare. This is done through:
1) Displaying the photos of the daycare, the director's contact information, and its daily schedule.
2) Featuring Facebook friends who have used the daycare.
3) Offering tours that parents can schedule on the website.
Daycare Experience

Organization
In order to make last minute drop-ins possible, a scheduling system had to be in place to help daycares to keep track of their tours and drop-ins. In addition, a paperwork feature streamlines the process of ensuring that every child has all of the necessary paperwork completed.
This minimizes the additional work and stress that could otherwise deter daycares from adopting the drop-in system.
